SACAPEX
2008 was fun!
We hope that you had a chance to visit us at SACAPEX 2008. There wasd
a good turn out, even with the wet weather on Saturday. 314 lots were
in the silent bid sale which was well attended. 72 frames of exhibits
produced some exciting looks at various areas of collecting.

SACAPEX
2008 Cachet - Results
Elephant 56% - Donkey 44%
Each year the SPS selects a topic or stamp to feature on a special cache. This year’s special cachet topic was “Election 2008”. Featured on the envelope was a patriot red stripes, blue background, and white star field with donkey and elephant on either side. A special cancel for each day of the event was used to cancel the stamps. The cancel was approved by the United States Post Office and shows the date along with the city, state and zip code. The words “Super Election Station” appears at the bottom. Stamps used for this cachet were a variety of older stamps that had to do with elections, voting, or state significance.
The idea for this years cache theme cames with a surprise. Inside was a ballot! In looking at various ideas for this years SACAPEX theme, it was decided that life had gotten quite serious. As club President Dean Carl explains “Gas prices on the rise, economy shake ups, election opponents all have gotten most people on a tension tight rope. That is when the thought came to loosen it up a little bit and have some fun with the whole ball of wax.”
Being an election year and with an election just two days after SACAPEX, the decision was made to hold a special election at the show. Carl goes on to explain “No names, as that would be way to serious. Call it an Aesop Election if you will. There is nobody but two animals for some good old-fashioned fun.” What added to this concept was that there have been many stamps produced that relate to elections and voting, so marrying it all up sounded like even more fun.
Each attendee who had gotten a SACAPEX 2008 cachet had an opportunity
to fill out the voter card and place it in the ballot box. The winner
of the election was announced at the close of the show, Sunday November
2 at 4:00pm.
